Tuesday 25 September 2012 a special event will be held at the Biblioteca Internazionale Ilaria Alpi as an anteprima to“Country Focus 2012”, an annual series at the biblioteca that celebrates and explores the literature, culture, languages, traditions, and arts of a specific country. INDIA is the rich center of this year’s many offerings that are scheduled throughout October and November.
The special event on Tuesday 25 September will host an extraordinary writer: the internationally known poet Meena Alexander, born in India in Allahabad, raised in Sudan, who studied in England and who now lives and teaches in New York City where she is Distinguished Professor of English at Hunter College in the MFA program in Creative Writing and at the CUNY Graduate Center in the PhD program in English.
Introduced by writer Wallis Wilde Menozzi and by professore Andrea Sirotti, Alexander will converse on themes that are crucial to her work and her life: migration, the Indian diaspora, and the impact of culture on language. A poet, whose passionate and committed voice has received reccognition throughout the world, she will present some of her work in English and in Italian translations. There will be ample space for questions from the audience.
